Healing Judgment

Yesterday morning, on my way to the airport to pick up an associate, I saw a homeless man on a street corner. He had that typical look about him, from the tattered shoes to the hand written sign thrown together from the bottom of a worn out cardboard box. Little did I know that I was about to break my own personal giving guideline… Again…

You see, one of my “guidelines” is that I usually Give Away A Dollar A Day anonymously - I know I’m creating surprise, excitement, and joy for whoever ends up finding it! But I also know I will stay clear of that all too common trap of judgment - of judging another person.

OK, so I thought, “what the heck”, why shouldn’t I give away to this fella today?

As soon as he started walking over to my car, I began to hear those ol’ judgments surface - “I wonder if this guy really needs the money”… “What if he’s a con”… “What’s he going to do with that dollar I give him anyway”…

Then I caught myself! I was being pretty unfair in my judgments. In truth, I had no idea what this guy’s story was, where he came from, how he got here, and where he was headed. All I knew is that he seemed to be in need.

I told the inner critic to shut up, gave the man my dollar, and drove off feeling pretty good about helping him out!

When I started to Give Away A Dollar A Day last year, I had no idea it would help me to heal judgment!

Blessings to you this day,

Todd
