I’m pretty excited about the whole idea behind Oprah’s Big Give series that starts tonight on ABC! From the previews, Oprah says that “The biggest giver becomes the biggest winner”. Wow!
And isn’t this so true. Whether it be on Oprah’s show or in our own personal lives, when we give, we win. I heard someone recently say that this is universal law. And I believe it to be so.
I really think that there is something wonderful with things like the Big Give… It is an inspiration to all of us, whether we’re on television or not, to give in our own way, in our own community, to whomever, whatever, and however we can.
I have a good friend named Carl. He’s an older fella, in his 70′s. Carl is one of those people that you would call an angel here on earth. Now although I don’t know this for certain, I believe that Carl has had very little money in recent years. And yet he has always found it in his heart to give generously every single day.
This past Christmas, Carl volunteered to be a bell ringer for the Salvation Army outside of a Walmart store. Carl has an incredible singing voice, and he sang Christmas Carols the entire time he was ringing that bell. When Carl’s service was completed, he received recognition for having raised more money than any other bell ringer, ever, for the Salvation Army district he was working in!
There might be some who would say that Carl isn’t very rich in his wallet, but he tops the list of generous givers from the heart. And that makes him pretty wealthy in my book!
Now in my own way of contributing and making a difference in the lives of others, I give away a dollar a day. Every day. I do it because it feels right.
So whatever you can do and whenever you can do it, be a winner by being a giver!
